Ghost Trees

Over the lagoon
After so many years
These trees remain
Under a frightening moon

Facing the water
Planted at the shore
Two trees they are
And not one more

What life do they have
In such a beautiful place
I wonder what would be
Their own and only grace

With their noisy branches
They all get together
For an afternoon talk
Even under cold weather

… Or at least that’s what I thought.
